Film Screening - The Battle of the Somme (1916)
Filmed by Geoffrey Malins and J.B. McDowell just six months after the British War Office relaxed its initial ban on filming at the front, The battle of the Somme records the opening of the British army's 1916 offensive on the Western Front during the First World War. Inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2005, this documentary is a landmark in both filmmaking and film history.
The Memorial gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the British High Commission and the Imperial War Museum in the screening of this film.
This film is scheduled to commence at approximately 10.30 am, 11.45 am, 1.00 pm, 2.15 pm, and 3.30 pm.
