Black Panthers (1968) and Black Panther Woman (2014) Screenings
Having just moved to Los Angeles with husband Jacques Demy, director Agnès Varda spent much of 1968 travelling to Oakland, filming Black Panther meetings and demonstrations with a borrowed 16mm camera.
Black Panthers (1968) covers a rally to free Panthers leader Huey P Newton, accused of killing a police officer.
In Rachel Perkins’ documentary, Black Panther Woman (2014), Marlene Cummins breaks a 40-year silence to talk about her abuse in the Australian Black protest movement.
The film culminates in her emotional journey to an international Black Panther gathering in New York.
